Fmr. Gov. Bill Owens' Frosty Encounter With Ex-Professor Ward Churchill
"In retirement, he's starting to look a lot like Michael Moore . . . Ward Churchill is a plagiarist and a fraud and, regrettably, we continue to pay for his deception"--Former Gov. Bill Owens on ex-CU professor Ward Churchill
The deposition took place in the office of Churchill's attorney, David Lane. Owens, who left office in January 2007 and now is a businessman, was represented by the attorney general's office.
For his part Friday, Churchill refused to shake Owens' hand.
So Owens took a verbal jab: "I said, 'Come on, you're a big guy.'"
Lane said later: "I hope the governor's feelings weren't too hurt."
And apparently, by "big guy" Owens meant Michael Moore.
Churchill's response?
*crickets chirping*
Owens concluded:
Churchill and Lane claimed the firing was in retaliation for exercising his constitutional right to free speech.
"I very directly told David Lane that I also had a First Amendment right to speak on the subject, and I reflected what a vast majority of Coloradans were saying," Owens said.
"Unfortunately for David Lane, his client had a clear pattern of lying for virtually his entire academic career. That's why he was fired.
"I believe the jury will reject Churchill's (claims.)"
Drunkablog, Pirate Ballerina and SP will have extensive coverage of the Churchill lawsuit come next month.

Charlton Heston, who won the 1959 best actor Oscar as the chariot-racing "Ben-Hur" and portrayed Moses, Michelangelo, El Cid and other heroic figures in movie epics of the '50s and '60s, has died. He was 84.
The actor died Saturday night at his home in Beverly Hills with his wife Lydia at his side, family spokesman Bill Powers said.
Powers declined to comment on the cause of death or provide further details.
Heston revealed in 2002 that he had symptoms consistent with Alzheimer's disease, saying, "I must reconcile courage and surrender in equal measure."
"To his loving friends, colleagues and fans, we appreciate your heartfelt prayers and support. Charlton Heston was seen by the world as larger than life. He was known for his chiseled jaw, broad shoulders and resonating voice, and, of course, for the roles he played. Indeed, he committed himself to every role with passion, and pursued every cause with unmatched enthusiasm and integrity.
We knew him as an adoring husband, a kind and devoted father, and a gentle grandfather, with an infectious sense of humor. He served these far greater roles with tremendous faith, courage and dignity. He loved deeply, and he was deeply loved.
No one could ask for a fuller life than his. No man could have given more to his family, to his profession, and to his country. In his own words, "I have lived such a wonderful life! I've lived enough for two people."
Mr. Heston graciously autographs a copy of his autobiography "In the Arena" for my mother in March, 2000 at the University of Colorado (Boulder)
A couple days ago I left a comment at Knowledge is Power, when news of the ailing Heston grew grim:
Back in 2000, just one year after Columbine, we at the University of Colorado, Boulder invited Mr. Heston to speak. The usual anti-gun moonbats were there. Mr. Heston took their heckling in stride, and was a total gentleman to all who attended reception, including my mother (a huge, huge fan--I grew up on Ben Hur and El Cid).
He was showing his age, as a stooped walk had replaced the once robust stride of a movie legend. But his stature had not diminished, and at that time, neither had his charm or wit.
It's about time to fulfill that promise I made a while back to get my concealed carry weapons permit--and no other fitting tribute to the great actor and patriot.Moonbat meltdown in 3 . . . 2 . . . 1 . . . (and they don't disappoint) from DailyKos:
OK OK I will post a link as soon as I see one but I see on CBS News that actor and gun-nut Charlton Heston has passed away. And I can't resist breaking a scoop on Daily Kos so here is an open thread !
Let's use that thread to discuss actors one likes until one finds out what kind of political nutdouchebaggery they are advocating.

Freedom of speech is a bitch, Bill O...how many people in this country are dead because of the organization Mr. Heston championed all these years?

Michael Moore In Denver To Tout New Propaganda 'Sicko'
**Update--Drunkablog endured Michael Moore's flatulence hot air, socialized medicine advocates, and some intense heat to bring us exclusive pictures from his Sicko propaganda promotion.
Sicko--and here we refer to the director, not the movie--will be accompanied by members of Colorado's nursing association (bring your costumes!):
Controversial Oscar-winning filmmaker Michael Moore will visit Denver on Sunday in support of his latest film, Sicko, an examination of the country's health-insurance industry, which opens here Friday.
As he did earlier this week in Chicago, Moore will preside at a rally attended by nurses - in this case, members of the Colorado Nurse's Association.
The association is one of seven organizations co-sponsoring Moore's appearance.
The location of Sunday's rally was changed Friday. Moore will now appear at 6 p.m. on the west steps of the state Capitol. . . . After the rally, Moore and the nurses will head to the Denver Pavilions on the 16th Street Mall, where he will hold a news conference and attend a private film screening at 7:15 p.m.
Huttner said that a limited number of tickets to that screening will be given to those attending the state Capitol rally "with the best signs or costumes."
What costume do you think best represents socialized medicine?
Maybe we could all show up in Castro-esque track suits.
“Although we think that your film could actually help reform America’s sorely inadequate health care system, there’s an elephant in the room, and it is you. With all due respect, no one can help but notice that a weighty health issue is affecting you personally. We’d like to help you fix that. Going vegetarian is an easy and life-saving step that people of all economic backgrounds can take in order to become less reliant on the government’s shoddy healthcare system, and it’s something that you and all Americans can benefit from personally.”
**Update 2-- Michael Moore at the meat-and-eatmeet-and-greet: "A system set-up to be cruel to the have-nots"--we need socialized healthcare like Canada and England!
My brother-in-law can't wait to flee the inefficiencies of the UK healthcare system. He should know, having been born and Englishman.
