Hickenlooper claims 4th-quarter comeback on DNC fundraising, hoping that pledged funds combined with cash on hand will be enough:
Denver Mayor John Hickenlooper sounded an upbeat note about Democratic National Convention fundraising on Monday, saying the local host committee finally has exceeded its original $40.6 million obligation - but only if pledged donations are combined with actual cash deposits.

That's not the end of the story, since the bills are expected to be millions of dollars higher than the original contracted amount.

Still, the situation is a far cry from mid-June, when the Denver 2008 Host Committee missed the final deadline in its contract with the Democratic National Convention Committee, falling about $11 million short of the amount it was supposed to have raised by then.

"Between cash and firm commitments, we're several million past that," Hickenlooper said during Monday's taping of The Aaron Harber Show for KBDI- TV.
