Air Force Academy Applications Drop

(Via 7News) For the AFA a two percent drop in applications is a minor adjustment as the class of 1260 was still full as approximately 9200 applied:

"So far, what we're seeing is a strong class in terms of their qualifications," Col. Trapper Carpenter, director of Air Force Academy admissions, said Tuesday.

In 2002, some 16,000 applied to attend the academy near Colorado Springs. In addition to the terrorist attacks boosting patriotism, the count included all applicants to the Air Force Reserve Officer Training Corps.

The number of women and minority applicants increased slightly by more than 70 this year, Carpenter said.

The U.S. Naval Academy and U.S. Military Academy also reported a drop in applications this year.
