Lawmakers Want To Give Denver Police Department Temporary Ability To Hire Out-Of-State Law Enforcement For DNC

In addition to stocking up on security equipment for the Democratic National Convention, the Denver Police Department is seeking latitude to hire (temporarily) additional law enforcement personnel from out-of-state:

Colorado lawmakers are working to make it possible for the Denver Police Department to find extra resources to handle the Democratic National Convention in August.

The Senate Judiciary Committee Monday unanimously approved House Bill 1347 which would give DPD the opportunity to temporarily hire any law enforcement officer from a state that borders Colorado.

The measure only applies to the City and County of Denver and would be repealed two weeks after the DNC is finished. Supporters say it will ensure the safety of those attending the largest convention in Colorado history (35,000 people) by allowing for the largest police presence in state history.

"Everyone understands how important this is," said Sen. Brandon Shaffer (D-Longmont). "Whether you're a Democrat or a Republican, the fact that we will be on both a national and international stage is quite an honor and we want to make sure it goes off without a hitch."

Recreate '68 is going to have to schedule some more consultas, I guess, now that Denver will have the "largest police presence in state history."
