Nixon, Bush Equal Death, John Lennon Equals Life

So says Gore Vidal in an upcoming tribute to John Lennon--The U.S. vs. John Lennon (trailer).

How ironic. I can't vouche for Nixon, but I don't see Bush as representing death. That's what Saddam and Osama bin Laden represent. The anti-war movement of the Vietnam days has some things to answer for, though they'll never acknowledge it: the millions of civilians killed in Vietnam and Cambodia as a result of the precipitous U.S. pullout that they wanted so badly. They felt virtuous and victorious because at least it wasn't the U.S. who was doing the killing. But they got killed anyway at the hands of their own people. That's not a legacy to be proud of.
